“Love Versus Power”

Uploaded on August 13, 2007

Sri Chinmoy plays quite a few different instruments in concert. Although he typically plays between 12 and 20 instruments per concert, his record for a single concert is 170 instruments!

Among all the instruments he plays, he has said the organ is the one that gives him the most satisfaction. Hearing this performance at the Riverside Church in New York, it is easy to see why: The range of expression achieved is so much greater than any other instrument can offer!

One thing that I have always felt in Sri Chinmoy’s organ music is a feeling of expansion. I often feel like I am traveling through wide, cosmic spaces at very high speed. There is such a sense of dynamism in certain passages of this performance!

Another quality that I feel in this music is the quality of universal beauty. It is most evident to me in the soft passages, which are of unequaled and sublime subtlety.

Sri Chinmoy has always been able to combine creativity and spirituality in a very luminous, enthusiastic and self-giving way. He lives in the heart, the spiritual heart that feels love for God and for humanity. It is from this fountain of love and oneness that his creative life comes from: from his prayer-life and meditation-life. Music is one of the ways in which he tries to foster world-harmony, bringing forward a manifestation of humanity’s inner sun of dynamism, joy and life.

We are grateful to Sri Chinmoy for this most illumining offering.
