Conversation Hearts 13: Sanjaya

Last modified January 8, 2010

In this episode of Conversation-Hearts, Sanjaya Spettigue shares with us a story about his experience in teaching about Hinduism in schools of his home town, Ipswich, in England.

Sanjaya has been studying meditation with Sri Chinmoy for many years, and his knowledge of different religions, and specially Hinduism, is excellent. In Ipswich they have an excellent program for promoting religious tolerance, and Sanjaya participates by going to schools and teaching children about Hinduism.

Throughout his life, Sri Chinmoy fostered harmony between the different faiths. He was invited to open the World Parliament of Religions, in Chicago in 1993, with a silent meditation. This event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the first Parliament of the World’s Religions, also held in Chicago in 1893. In 2004, when the Parliament of the World’s Religions was again held in Barcelona, Spain, Sri Chinmoy was again invited to open the event with a silent meditation.

We hope you enjoy Sanjaya’s story about his experiences in the schools of Ipswich, teaching children how to appreciate the culture and values of different religions.
