Today God from Heaven Descends

Last modified May 1, 2022

‘August 15th, 1945’ is a poem written by Sri Chinmoy in 1945 in honour of Sri Aurobindo’s birthday (b. 15th August, 1872).

This album contains a short introduction about the poem, followed by Sri Chinmoy reciting the poem in Bengali.

Sri Chinmoy set his poem to music in July 1995 – 50 years after he wrote the original poem. The third track is a recording of Sri Chinmoy singing the song version – ‘Dyulok chariye nara narayan’.

The fourth track is a powerful and extemporaneous pipe organ performance.

August 15th, 1945

God in human form
Descends from Heaven today
To touch and feel
The breath of earth-dust.
Comrades, His Victory
Let us proclaim, casting aside
All our world-responsibility-obligations.

– Sri Chinmoy, August 15th 1945 from India, my India. Mother India’s summit-prides, Agni Press, 1997 at Sri Chinmoy Library
