Saraswati: Mother of Music-Wisdom-Perfection

Last modified May 21, 2012

A 40-minute long extemporaneous performance on the piano on February 20, 1999. The title of the recording refers to Saraswati, the Indian goddess of wisdom and music.

In this performance, Sri Chinmoy manifests the myriad qualities of his best piano performances: an unbridled imagination, a majestic feeling and a rhythmic richness matched only by the subtlety of expression. From volcanic energy to the ethereal passages, Sri Chinmoy’s piano improvisations have that freedom that comes from scaling the heights of human consciousness.

His piano music is at once cosmic and inward; sometimes you feel that he is exploring a deep place in the heart; at other times you feel the power of the whole universe; a powerful journey through countless galaxies and cosmic spaces. Indeed, in Sri Chinmoy’s piano music there is something for everyone.

In visual terms, this piece is like a large painting, with many, many different colors and textures, where subtlety and power play a luminous game of inner and outer beauty.
