New York ‘All-Local’ Performance, August 2012

Last modified November 2, 2012

Sri Chinmoy students from New York join in a vocal/instrumental performance of a medley of Sri Chinmoy’s songs, arranged by Paree Atkin.

Every April and August, Sri Chinmoy Students from all over the world gather in New York to celebrate two most important dates for us: April 13 is the Anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s arrival in the West (April 13, 1964) and August 27 is the Anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s Birthday (August 27, 1931). We have many activities, including music, sports, and collective meditation. It is a very powerful, spiritual environment, one in which the students share their aspiration and feel re-energized in their spiritual quest for perfection.

Every April and August since Sri Chinmoy’s passing (Mahasamadhi- Oct. 11, 2007) the New York students have been performing a medley of songs by Sri Chinmoy, arranged and conducted by Paree Atkin. This is the 10th edition of this NY all-local performance.

These performances are powerful, soulful, dynamic and cheerful. And it is in this spirit of cheerfulness that the 10th New York All-Local Performance was offered on August 27, 2012.

The main song’s lyrics (words and music by Sri Chinmoy) reads as follows:

“This is my day; I love it.
This is my morning God-Hour; I need it.
This is my Supreme moment; I am it.”

The second song is one of Sri Chinmoy’s birthday songs:

“Birthday is the vision-day of days
To spread the soul’s truth-promise rays.
Earth-life enjoys Heaven the song.
Great gods, good souls in oneness throng.”

The music is magnificent, and the cheerfulness contagious….so we hope you enjoy this performance as much as we do!
