Celebrations, August 2009

Last modified September 21, 2009

Every August, Sri Chinmoy students from all over the world gather in New York to celebrate Sri Chinmoy’s birthday on August 27. The Celebration, which spans two weeks, is filled with group meditations, musical performances, plays, and joyful games and sports activities.

Sri Chinmoy meditation centres worldwide offer a variety of activities for the general public, including musical concerts, art exhibitions, free meditation classes and sport events. During our Celebrations each August, many meditation centres offer musical performances, arrangements of Sri Chinmoy’s songs.

Sri Chinmoy composed more than 18,000 devotional songs, and he shared them with the world at large through a series of free concerts. From 1984 until 2007, Sri Chinmoy offered almost 800 free concerts around the globe, in concert venues large and small, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House and Lincoln Centre. Sri Chinmoy’s concerts were always free of charge, as a service to truth-seekers and God-lovers worldwide. In these concerts, Sri Chinmoy sought to share the inner light, peace and joy that he received and achieved in his prayers and meditations.

We offer you here Part 1 of a selection of performances from August 2009, and we hope you enjoy the variety, beauty and soulfulness of these musical offerings.
