44 Hiyamallar Shalom sings Sri Chinmoy’s longest song

In this jewel of a compilation, we offer you sterling performances by Sri Chinmoy students from all over the world, who gathered in New York in August of 2007 to celebrate Sri Chinmoy‘s 76th Birthday.

Sri Chinmoy has dedicated his life to the cause of world harmony and international friendship. He feels that humanity is a family, a oneness-heart family, and that we should all love each other. All human beings form a worldwide family that wants to live in harmony and friendship.

Through soulful and elevating activities, such as music, art, sports and literature, Sri Chinmoy seeks to express his own creativity, love and dynamism, and also inspire other human beings to find and become the best in themselves; to unfold their own highest potential and to share it with others.

In 1987 Sri Chinmoy founded the World Harmony Run, an international olympic-style torch relay which seeks to promote friendship and brotherhood among all human beings through sport; in this case the participants run or walk with a flaming torch which is passed from hand to hand, as a symbol of each person’s deepest longing and aspi
ration for brotherhood, harmony, friendship and love among all the peoples of the world. It is a unique event that brings together millions of people every year.

Another humanizing and elevating field in which Sri Chinmoy has excelled is the field of music. Music is often regarded as the highest of the fine arts. Why? Because it is not dependent on external circumstances or stimulus; it comes from the inmost and deepest recesses of the human heart.

Music is able to express the deepest longings and aspirations of each human being. It is also able to express the inner beauty of the human heart; this beauty, this essence within us, is like the perfume hidden inside a flower. It is the universal, common essence of all. Music, therefore, is able to unite us. It is indeed the universal language.

In this compilation we offer you 44 performances by Sri Chinmoy’s students. The majority of these performances are arrangements of Sri Chinmoy’s melodies. These arrangements are conceived and offered by Sri Chinmoy’s students, in an effort to share with others the feelings experienced through meditation and prayer.

Our gratitude to all those who contributed to this compilation. We wish them a creative and dynamic life, a life where the light received is shared as well, for therein lies the real joy: in sharing all the good and divine gifts that we have received.
