Up one levelThe sitar is a Hindustani classical stringed instrument which utilizes sympathetic strings along with regular strings and a gourd resonating chamber to produce a very distinctive sound. The sitar has been popular in Hindustani classical music since the Middle Ages. It has become popular in the West since it has been used by the Beatles e.g. songs such as "Within You Without You. In these recordings Sri Chinmoy and others perform devotional songs on this beautiful instrument
