"My Prayerful Salutations To The United Nations" - Part III
Excerpts from Sri Chinmoy's 50 concerts in 1995, in honour of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations
In this extraordinary selection of performances from a world-wide concert tour which Sri Chinmoy offered in 1995 in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, we enjoy Sri Chinmoy's performances in a wide variety of instruments from all over the world.
This selection includes performances on drums from Africa and India, different synthesizers, cello, ocarina and piano.
The performances are at once sweet and powerful, subtle yet determined in their attempt at manifesting a spirit of world-oneness through music.
Here are some of Sri Chinmoy's thoughts on the universality of music:
"When somebody is singing or playing music, it is very easy for us to identify with it because we are on the same level. But music can be found everywhere. Music is oneness with God's Infinity, Eternity and Immortality. Music is a universal language. We do not need any other language. I do not have to learn Portuguese. You do not have to learn Bengali. God has created a universal language, and that is music. Because it is universal, it has to be inside any material object."
"...Music gives us the feeling of sweetness, tenderness and softness. The inner music always inspires us to do something good for humanity. Our inner music is a form of prayer and meditation."
-Sri Chinmoy
We are grateful to Sri Chinmoy for this soulful offering.
