Every April and August, as part of our Celebrations for Sri Chinmoy's arrival in the West (April 13) and Sri Chinmoy's Birthday (August 27), the Sri Chinmoy Centre organizes a Classical Concert, where his students from all over the world perform music from various composers.

These are performers who have been meditating for many years, so their music is infused with sweetness, soulfulness and love.

Since 1984, Sri Chinmoy has given over 800 concerts of prayerful, meditative music in many concert halls, big and small, with concerts of over 20,000 people, as well as small venues that hold only a few hundred.

Since coming to America in 1964, Sri Chinmoy has excelled in many fields of the fine arts. He has painted over 200,000 paintings and drawn millions of bird drawings. Sri Chinmoy has also written many, many books of essays, poetry, short stories and plays (over 1,500 books to date).

In the world of sport, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team organizes over 500 events every year, ranging from 2-mile races, to triple-Ironman events and the 3100-Mile Self-Transcendence Race, the longest in the world.

In 1987 Sri Chinmoy founded also the World Harmony Run, a global relay for world harmony and friendship. This run covers more than 100 countries, and people of all ages, creeds, and social position run or walk the Harmony Torch.

This concert of Classical music is, therefore, just one of the many uplifting and edifying activities that the Sri Chinmoy Centres organize around the world. These activities and initiatives seek to foster the higher values of humanity, such as love, compassion, oneness, dynamism, humility, self-transcendence, and so forth.

Thanks to all the musicians who participated in this event, and shared with us their talent for the fine art of music. From Beethoven to Mozart and Debussy, many composers found their expression in this soulful offering.
