Sri Chinmoy left the body on October 11, 2007. Throughout his 43 years in the West, Sri Chinmoy founded many worldwide initiatives to foster world-harmony and friendship among people and nations. He felt that humanity is one big family, and that love and oneness should be manifested in the world in the form of peace, harmony, friendship and understanding. World leaders and luminaries have expressed their admiration for his work in their tributes following his passing.
His World Harmony Run has circled the globe a few times, carrying a torch that represents the inner flame of aspiration for peace that all human beings carry in their heart. The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team sponsors more than 500 sports events each year, including the world's longest foot race (3100 miles). The Sri Chinmoy Centres offer seekers a path to inner growth, joy and service to humanity.
This Peace Concert in Cologne, Germany, is extremely important and historical. This was the first concert in a series spanning 27 years, 800 concerts and many, many countries.
Sri Chinmoy endeavored to share his inner peace, the peace he received from his prayers and meditations, through soulful, spiritual music. The source of this music is a deep inner silence attained in meditation. Feeling that this inner peace came as a gift from God, he also felt the concerts should be free of charge to the public. So he embarked on a journey, a self-giving journey, playing in venues large and small. Among the concert halls in which Sri Chinmoy offered his soulful compositions are: Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Royal Albert Hall (he played in the Royal Albert Hall six times), Sydney Opera House, and the Budokan Hall in Tokyo. All 800 concerts that Sri Chinmoy offered were always free of charge.
In his concerts, Sri Chinmoy played multiple instruments from around the globe, from the Indian esraj to the piano, the organ and many percussion instruments as well.
Although in most concerts he plays between 12 and 20 different instruments, in some concerts he has played up to 170 instruments! This particular concert in Switzerland took almost four and a half hours! Sri Chinmoy likes to always challenge his own capacity, in order to manifest the unlimited capacity of the human spirit. Throughout his life, he applied this concept of self-transcendence to many fields, such as music, art, sports and literature.
We are very privileged to share with you this soulful offering by Sri Chinmoy.
