Throughout his life, Sri Chinmoy sought to share the fruits of his prayer and meditations with the world at large. One of the ways that he used was through music.
From 1984 until he left the body in 2007, Sri Chinmoy offered 800 concerts of soulful, meditative music, traveling around the globe a few times in the process. Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall are a few of the most renowned concert halls in which Sri Chinmoy offered his soulful music. These concerts were always offered free of charge to the public.
His music is surcharged with inner light and inner peace, which are qualities that every human being has in his/her soul. Based on his oneness with humanity, Sri Chinmoy travelled far and wide to feed his hungry brothers and sisters with food for the soul, spiritual music.
One of Sri Chinmoy's teachings is the concept of "self-transcendence". This is based on the feeling that God, being everywhere, is inside each individual. Therefore, each individual has infinite capacity yet to be realized and manifested. Teaching by example, Sri Chinmoy manifested this self-transcendence in many fields of endeavor, such as art (painting more than 150,000 paintings), literature (he wrote more than 1,500 books) and music (Sri Chinmoy composed more than 18,000 songs).
In this concert, he plays 170 different musical instruments in the space of four and a half hours. (The edited recording is a little shorter)
We hope that this music will enable you to enter into that deep space within the heart, where the infinite and the finite meet, and enjoy their self-transcending light.
