Sri Chinmoy Plays the Esraj 6

This new release offers a classic album of Sri Chinmoy playing the esraj from 1978. This album ‘Esraj no. 6′ includes a total of 13 tracks; the tracks include Sri Chinmoy’s own composition, plus some extemporaneous performances.

Sri Chinmoy first began playing the esraj in 1974, and it was his favourite instrument. We hope you enjoy the sweet, ethereal and sublime quality of these esraj recordings.

In 1976 more than a thousand music lovers crowded into St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York on October 30th for Sri Chinmoy’s first public esraj concert in the U.S. At the end, the Master handed out prasad, or “blessing-food.” The concert was described as an extension of the meditation experience into music, and the audience meditated throughout the programme. All the music was written by Sri Chinmoy.
