“Buddham Sharanam Gachhami” – Hiya Bhasha

Last modified February 6, 2012

A German female group, Hiya Bhasha, offer the album “Buddham Sharanam Gachhami” (1989). The album is a selection of songs dedicated to the Spiritual Master, Lord Buddha. The songs were composed by Sri Chinmoy in 1983 and published in a songbook: Japan: The Morning Sun Of The World in 1992.

This album includes some of the quotes of Buddha as “Be a Lamp unto Yourself” and “Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, man cannot live without the spiritual life”.

Some of the songs were composed a few months after Sri Chinmoy’s visit to Japan, where he meditated in front of the great Buddha statue at Kamakura (December 20, 1982). Because he was so moved by his meditative experience there, he composed a song about the Buddha and asked his students to sing it in front of the statue.

“The Buddha appeared on earth to dispel by the illumination of knowledge the ignorance that had enveloped the human mass, to release the human soul from the prison-cell of desire into the wideness of the silence and peace of Nirvana.

– Sri Chinmoy, Mother India’s Lighthouse: India’s Spiritual Leaders, Agni Press, 1971.

“For centuries the light of the Buddha has shone as a beacon beckoning men from across the sea of darkness. Like lost children, millions of seekers have reached out to the light with their heart’s inmost cry, and the Buddha has shown them the Way. The world stood before the Buddha with it’s ignorance, and the Buddha, the Enlightened One, gave man Truth. The world offered its age old suffering to the Buddha’s heart and the Buddha, Lord of Compassion, showed man the Dharma.”     –

From the book Siddhartha Becomes The Buddha by Sri Chinmoy, Agni Press in 1973
