My Esraj: My Inspiration-Aspiration-Source

Last modified June 4, 2012

An Esraj performance by Sri Chinmoy to celebrate his 23rd Anniversary of playing the instrument.

Recorded at P.S. 117 in Jamaica, New York, on February 17th, 1999. All music by Sri Chinmoy except “Ami Phire Ogo”, a traditional song of India.

Dear listeners, it is with great joy that we present you with this CD by Sri Chinmoy. The esraj was one of Sri Chinmoy’s favorite instruments. In this performance, sweetness is paramount. The purity and sweetness of both tone and expression is unsurpassed.

Except for the first melody on Part 1, all the melodies in this CD are songs composed by Sri Chinmoy. In his devotional songs, he expressed his oneness with humanity, with humanity’s longing for the Highest. This inner cry, which Sri Chinmoy calls aspiration, is at once our shared, divine emotion, and also the innermost will of our soul.

This music is full of peace, light, bliss and many other divine qualities. It is very conducive to meditation. We hope that this music will be of service to you in your inner journey to self-knowledge, self-transcendence and self-perfection.
