April 2026 Celebrations, Part II- April 14-15
Last modified May 6, 2026
Dear listeners, every April, disciples of Sri Chinmoy gather to celebrate the Anniversary of Sri Chinmoy’s arrival in the West (April 13, 1964). We have group meditation in silence, musical performances by vocal and instrumental groups, as well as sporting events and a public concert.
Kailash Group
We offer you here a selection of soulful performances, interpretations of songs by Sri Chinmoy. These selections of soulful music are very conducive to meditation. They are surcharged with inner and outer beauty, sweetness, and the inner cry we call aspiration.
Aspiration
“What is aspiration? Aspiration is speed.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is the fastest speed.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is Eternity’s fastest speed.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is Eternity’s fastest speed-communion between man and God.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is silence-vision. It is God the Supreme Beloved’s Silence-Vision.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is sound-mission. It is God the Supreme Lover’s Sound-Mission.
What is aspiration? Aspiration is the crying man’s duty. Aspiration is the smiling God’s Beauty.
Aspiration is God’s constant declaration of man’s capacity. Aspiration is man’s conscious necessity of God’s real Reality within and without him.
Aspiration is not and cannot be the destination. Aspiration is the eternal journey. It is man’s eternal journey to self-transcendence in the soul-light of perfection.
Aspiration is God’s eternal journey of supreme manifestation in the satisfaction-heart of His transcendental Height, universal Length and unfathomable Depth.
With aspiration God started His journey. With aspiration He asks His children, His creation, to continue the journey.”
UV 42. Sri Chinmoy gave this talk in the Chapel of the Church Center for the United Nations on 8 July 1975.↩
Soulful, spiritual music is of great help in the inner journey of self-discovery. It helps us to connect to that Source we come from, the Highest which abides in every heart; the very essence of Creation, which the ancient sages called “Existence-Consciousness-Bliss”.
Question: Can music and aspiration co-exist?
Sri Chinmoy: “Music and aspiration can and do exist together. Of course, here we are talking only about spiritual music. Spiritual music is the illumining and fulfilling language of the universal soul. Aspiration is the inner cry; music is the outer smile. When we sow the seed of inner cry, we reap the fruit of outer smile. Soulful music and soulful aspiration are not only true friends but eternal friends. Music spreads the height of aspiration; aspiration increases the length of music.”
Sri Chinmoy composed more than 22,000 songs, and his disciples love to interpret their favorite songs. Through singing and playing these melodies, a higher vibration is created and manifested, which helps the student to win in the ocean of peace we call meditation.
Question: I should like an elaboration on the link between music and spirituality as you see it.
Sri Chinmoy: “Music and spirituality go together. God Himself is the Supreme Musician and each human being is a note in His cosmic Game. God is playing His cosmic Role in mankind through music. Through His music, God is offering to His children the message of unity in multiplicity and also the message of multiplicity in unity. When we play soulful music, we elevate our consciousness most rapidly. Soulful music is a form of aspiration, a form of meditation. But if we play undivine music, then it destroys our aspiring consciousness. All those who are seekers of the infinite Truth will naturally play soulful music; and when they play soulful music, they have to know that they are consciously running towards their destined goal.”
