Transcendence-Perfection 50th Anniversary – Recital

Mahiruha recites, and Surashri sings some of the poems that Sri Chinmoy set to music.

“When I first became Sri Chinmoy’s spiritual student, one of the books that most appealed to me looked like an oversize telephone directory, with big white paper covers.  This book was none other than Transcendence-Perfection.  The poems just seemed to fit so well on the tongue, to melt in the palate like cotton candy, and yet they were deep, nourishing poems.  I read the whole book of 843 poems six or seven times before I read the blurb on the inside cover, and discovered he had written all of them in one day.  And not just any day- the very day I was born: November 1^st, 1975.  This impelled me to read the book many, many more times, and to treasure it.

At the end of 2013, I got the inspiration to commit Transcendence-Perfection to memory, and I recited it around the ninth of November, 2016 in Potsdam, Germany.  Reciting Transcendence-Perfection from memory was one of the absolute highlights of my life.

To mark my 50^th birthday and also the 50^th anniversary of Guru’s remarkable and immortal achievement, my dear friend and great musician Surashri and I decided to offer a program of poems from this book, as well as poems that the Master subsequently turned into songs: November 1^st, 2025.  This book, Transcendence-Perfection changed my life, and who knows how many seekers and poetry-lovers it will inspire in the years to come?”
