A recording from 1982, taken during one of Sri Chinmoy’s concerts in San Francisco. The concert features several ethereal flute recordings, and also Sri Chinmoy, accompanied by the harmonium, singing some classic songs from his repertoire.
The concert was performed in front of a packed house of 2,000 music lovers, at the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco on 4 June. The concert was part of a three-day visit to the West Coast that included also visit at Berkeley on 5 June for his “Fifty Oneness-State-Songs” concert tour (A 50-state lecture series that he started in May 1982). On the following day, Sri Chinmoy was in Foster City to officiate at the Sri Chinmoy Marathon held there.
In 1982, Sri Chinmoy visited 50 different states of the USA. He called this tour “Fifty Oneness-State-Songs”. In an offering to the people of America, Sri Chinmoy held a series of lecture-concerts and meditation-runs in each of the 50 states. He began the day’s events with a seven-mile meditation-run – a solo run that he carried out in a meditative consciousness along a measured course as a prayerful offering to that state. Then, that evening, he gave a short talk and concert in the state. Special 7 mile races in 1982
