“One Hundred and Seventy God-Music-Invocations”

Last modified March 10, 2008

In this concert, Sri Chinmoy plays a record 170 different musical instruments in the space of four and a half hours.

Sri Chinmoy performed this unique 170 instrument concert on 11 September, 2005 at the village of Interlaken in the Swiss Alps. The concert was attended by approximately 700 people.

Sri Chinmoy begins this epic performance with the playing of gongs, followed by the conch, flute, and esraj. This was just the start of the multi-instrument concert.

The album is split up into 16 parts, with each segment including several different instruments.

Sri Chinmoy received singing lessons when he was a young student at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, but for the vast majority of instruments, Sri Chinmoy was self-taught – often learning to play in a short space of time.

Sri Chinmoy liked to try different instruments, and often requested his students to find and send local instruments.
