Four Performances from June 16, 2013, Aspiration-Ground, NY

Last modified September 25, 2013

Dear listeners, we are honored to offer you four performances by Sri Chinmoy Students from June 16, 2013. These include performances by Paree’s group, Vedic Fire, Sangit Surabhi, and Premik and Friends.

Sri Chinmoy composed, sang and played devotional songs. It was an integral and important part of his spiritual practice. He wrote about the importance of soulful music:

Question: Can music and aspiration co-exist?
Sri Chinmoy: Music and aspiration can and do exist together. Of course, here we are talking only about spiritual music. Spiritual music is the illumining and fulfilling language of the universal soul. Aspiration is the inner cry; music is the outer smile. When we sow the seed of inner cry, we reap the fruit of outer smile. Soulful music and soulful aspiration are not only true friends but eternal friends. Music spreads the height of aspiration; aspiration increases the length of music.

Question: Can music transform our consciousness?
Sri Chinmoy: Definitely music can transform our consciousness, provided it is soulful, devotional music and not the music that produces vital stimulation. That kind of music can never transform our consciousness. There is a type of music that is all inner illumination and outer progress. This music is spiritual, devotional and self-giving. It can awaken us from deep ignorance-sleep.
Sri Chinmoy, Sri Chinmoy Answers, Part 30, Agni Press, 2001

In almost 800 concerts of soulful music around the globe, always free of charge to the public, he strived to share moments of inner beauty, light peace and bliss with humanity at large.

In the same vein, his students also want to share this inner cry, aspiration, that is embodied in the soulful feelings manifested in this music.

We hope that these performances inspire you, and that they may be of service in your inner life.
