Sri Chinmoy’s Longest Song Performed 11 November 2005

Last modified March 13, 2006

The original Bengali poem, August 15th 1945, was written by the young Chinmoy in Pondicherry, India, on August 14th, 1945, the day before Sri Aurobindo’s birthday. Sri Chinmoy was then thirteen years old.

Sri Chinmoy took the original poem and set it to music in New York on July 8th, 1995, fifty years after the original poem was written. It is the longest song of all Sri Chinmoy’s musical compositions. Sri Chinmoy began translating this Bengali song into English on June 9th, 1996. He completed the translation on August 4th so that it might be released on August 15th.

In this recording, a student of Sri Chinmoy, Hiyamallar sings the complete song.
