Sri Chinmoy’s Thanksgiving Music-Feast, CD 1

Last modified November 29, 2014

In 1985, Sri Chinmoy performed on a total of 21 different instruments during a seven hour meditation and public concert in New York. This first CD includes 14 tracks of sublime meditation music by Sri Chinmoy on the flute, esraj and cello.

Dear listeners, it is our joy to share with you this collection of 45 tracks with vocal and instrumental performances by Sri Chinmoy. These were published in a 3-Cd set in 2011. We present you here with the first 14 tracks, comprising CD 1.

CD jacket notes:

Sri Chinmoy’s Thanksgiving Music-Feast took place on November 27, 1985, the day before the American holiday of Thanksgiving. It was held at Buchman Hall, which by day was the showroom of Classical Keyboards, an antique piano restoration and refurbishing service run by one of Sri Chinmoy’s disciples, located on the second floor of an industrial building in Manhattan. This was the 30th concert Sri Chinmoy gave in 1985, and his first at Buchman Hall. Over the next eight years he gave 34 more concerts there.”

These are the program notes for the concert (as published in the CD jacket):

“Sri Chinmoy will offer his soulful gratitude to the God-lovers and peace-seekers while performing his own meditative compositions on 27 instruments, including flute, cello, esraj and a variety of rare Eastern instruments. There will be a five-minute intermission every hour from 5:00 p.m. until midnight during which all are welcome to enter or exit.”

“I thank you all, O my seeker-friends, because in me you see a simple instrument of God. I thank you all, O my seeker-friends, because in you I see the living Presence of my Beloved Supreme.”

From 1984 to 2007, Sri Chinmoy offered almost 800 Peace Concerts worldwide. In halls large and small, from Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall in London (six times), the Sydney Opera House and Lincoln Center, to churches and smaller concert halls, Sri Chinmoy strived to share, through music, the fruits of his prayer-life and meditation-life.

Sri Chinmoy’s music is surcharged with inner peace, light and bliss. It is the music of the heart, the spiritual heart of love for God and for humanity. This music is meditative, and the peacefulness in it is very soothing to the human spirit.

We hope that you enjoy the inner beauty and purity of this soulful offering by Sri Chinmoy.
