This week we feature stories from the life of Akbar. Born in 1556 he is considered the greatest of all the Moghul Emperors. He wanted unity amongst the Hindus and Muslims and was generous and just to the extreme. His lasting contributions were felt most powerfully in the arts and religion. He removed the tax imposed on non Muslims, preserved Hindu temples and began a series of religious debates between Muslim scholars, Sikhs, Hindus, atheists and Jesuits from the Vatican. Enjoy.

The Old Lady And The Dagger
A story that highlights the generous heart of Akbar. Walking incognito in the streets he comes across an old lady who has been waiting for years to see the Emperor.

Akbar Prays For A Son
Akbar sought the blessings and guidance of a Sufi saint in order to help him gain an heir to his throne. The saint replied “ Allah will definitely grant you your heart’s desire.”

Who Carries The Worse Luck?
Emperor Akbar encounters some bad luck one morning and blames it on a minister in his court. Condemned to be hung, the minister with the help of Birbal illumines the Emperor’s mind.
